Biome

Biome works (series of 6)

In the biome works we are interested in the generation of an artificial diversity that mimics the bio-diversity on our planet. Each machine sports its own unique markations as it goes about its business in the biome space. In addition to this the machines have an intricate set of behaviours that govern their actions and interactions in their environment.

When we view a biome we witness a live performance that represents the expression of the machines’ behaviours. As a consequence when we are describing each machine’s behaviour as a set or rules written as a computer program, we are in fact attempting to finely tune and balance a temporal composition. As a result the slightest change to a machine’s behaviour could result in a profound change to their live performance i.e. the screen could be empty or over active. Ultimately, the antics of the biome machine are emergent and beyond our precise control.
