H

Use the arrow keys to change the weight and size of the letter. Use your microphone or play some music to see the letter react to sound.

This sketch was created to examine the relationship between typography and sound. Oral communication is increasingly transmitted using written communication tools (type), particularly in emails and text messages. Especially as "H" does not really have a measurable sound, the letterform is manipulated using emotional/organic rather than statistical visualisation means.

Randomness in this sketch is restricted to the planes of the letterform. The individual "hairs" of the H are placed randomly within the space occupied by the letter. When the user changes the shape of the letter, the "hairs" re-adjust themselves to fit within the new letterform.

Coming from a graphic design background, I believe that typography plays a very important role in visual communication. This project adds an element of irrationality to an otherwise very rational form of communication and can be seen as a prototype for transferring alternative messages and additional (emotional) information using typography.
