This sketch balances repetition and randomness. It makes use of the Perlin Noise function in Processing, which produces an organic succession of random numbers. An earlier sketch called" Midicage" , which randomly generated harmonic music, partly inspired this project. Midicage proved the importance of repetition and rhythm and "Draw" uses a similar technique, this time to create harmonic visual patterns.
As with this sketch, I often use layers of opaque shapes to create digital drawings and paintings. I am particularly fascinated by how almost transparent shapes change form when layered on top of each other. This sketch only uses endless layers of a straight line, but the output is often very organic and curvy. The larger amount of red in the line (which is always more than the green and blue values) only becomes visible when layered on top of other lines. This creates a bleeding effect wherever the lines intersect. Some characteristics (in this case the form) of the individual shape are hidden, but others (e.g. the colour) are revealed, when layered on top of each other.
